Tips for Finding Flattering Clothing You Love

Posted on December 9, 2021December 20, 2021 By Toby

While following style rules can help you find outfits that flatter your body shape, it can also feel restrictive. When your clothes have to comply with a rigid set of standards, picking out an outfit feels like work. With that said, you don’t have to give up on flattering outfits if you want to have fun getting dressed. See here for ‘how to get best fitting bra‘.

Treat Rules As General Guidelines

While styling principles can help you find clothes that look good on you, you should keep in mind that there’s no penalty for breaking these rules. Instead of trying to follow every rule to the letter, you should look at these rules as a broad set of guidelines. You can use these simple principles to figure out what styles of clothing might work for you. With these guidelines as a starting point, you’ll have the freedom to pick out all kinds of outfits that flatter your figure.

Guide for Apple Bodies

If you carry your weight in the stomach, you should try to lengthen your torso and add definition to your hips. Empire and A-line silhouettes can both be very flattering, and so can dramatic necklines.

Guide for Pear Bodies

If you’re smaller up top and heavier on the bottom, you can balance your body by adding more definition to your upper half. Eye-catching necklines are a great way to do this. Focus on making your body look balanced. Wear skinny trousers with looser tops and wider trousers with tighter tops.

Guidelines for Inverted Triangle Bodies

If you’re larger up top and smaller on the bottom, wide necklines or V-necks can help you to create balance. Fitted trousers with a skinny or straight cut are best for you.

Guidelines for Rectangle Bodies

If your body doesn’t have a lot of curves, you can use separates to make your waist more defined. Layers can also make you look curvier.

Guidelines for Hourglass Bodies

You can flatter your figure by wearing clothing that shows off your waistline. High-rise trousers and tailored clothing should look great on you.

Use Shapewear to Smooth Your Body Out

While these guidelines can help you out, you’ll have even more options if you take advantage of shapewear. With shapewear, you’ll have a way to smooth out your body and change your silhouette. As an example, shapewear can help to flatten your stomach and define your waist. Shapewear can also create the illusion of slimmer hips and thighs. If there’s a particular silhouette you love, but you don’t feel like it flatters your body shape, wearing shapewear could help you to pull it off.

Identify What Works for You

Some women settle into a fashion uniform. If there’s a particular outfit that works well for you, but you don’t want to wear the same thing over and over, you can create variations on the same look. If you know you look great in high-waisted bottoms, try swapping out your loose-fitting trousers for an A-line skirt with a higher waistline. If layers give your upper half more definition, try trading in your favourite blazer for a cardigan. Focus on the principles that make an outfit flattering. Use that information to create all sorts of different outfits.

Build a Shapewear Collection

While it’s common to see people wear shapewear for big occasions, it’s less common for people to wear it with their daily outfits. There are all kinds of different shapewear to choose from, and with a larger collection, you’ll be able to wear shapewear all the time. When you have a smoother silhouette, you’ll have more flexibility, and you’ll feel a lot more confident. Shapewear has become very popular, and there are plenty of options that were created with comfort in mind.

Switch Things Up With Accessories

Another way to make an unflattering outfit work for you is to add some accessories. As an example, if a dress makes your waistline disappear, you can define your waist with a belt. If you need to define the upper half of your body, you could use a scarf or a necklace. The right accessories can change the way an outfit looks on you. Instead of getting rid of clothes you don’t wear anymore, see if you can make them work with accessories!
